# Merging With an Active HubSpot-Salesforce Sync | Dedupely

> Dedupely detects an active HubSpot-Salesforce Integration and merges in both CRMs at once, so the next sync cycle can't rebuild the duplicate you merged.

## Merging duplicates with an active HubSpot-Salesforce Integration

Merge duplicates in HubSpot and Salesforce at the same time, without breaking the sync or bringing duplicates back.
Dedupely detects an active HubSpot-Salesforce Integration and merges the duplicates in both CRMs in a single action. All the contacts, deals and activity attached to them are kept in both CRMs, and no custom fields or workflow changes are needed.

### Before you start

-
**HubSpot and Salesforce both connected to Dedupely.** See [Connect your CRM](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/connect-your-crm).
-
**The right permissions in both CRMs.** See the [HubSpot](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/hubspot-deduplication-guide) and [Salesforce](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/salesforce-deduplication-guide) guides.

### Why merging with the sync on is tricky

A merge inside HubSpot doesn't update Salesforce. When you merge two companies in HubSpot, the secondary company disappears there but stays active in Salesforce. On the next sync, the integration can re-create the duplicate or overwrite field values, so teams end up with workarounds or sync loops.
Dedupely avoids this by merging the matching records in both CRMs at once.

### How to merge with the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration on

Added July 28, 2026
- Connect both your HubSpot and Salesforce accounts to Dedupely.
-
Go to **CRM Settings** and open the **HubSpot-Salesforce Integration** tab.
- In the dropdown, select the other CRM to link the two.
- Find and merge duplicates as you normally would.

### Before a merge that would break the sync

Added July 28, 2026
Dedupely checks HubSpot company merges before they run. If the two CRMs aren't linked and a match holds companies synced to different Salesforce Accounts, Dedupely tells you how many matches would break the sync and offers two choices:
- **Connect the syncing Salesforce account**, so the merge runs in both CRMs.
-
**Always Exclude these matches**, to skip them now and in future scans. This turns on the **Merges that would break the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration sync** Safety Setting for HubSpot companies.
In Merge Preview, the HubSpot company synced with Salesforce stays the Primary Record, so the integration keeps its record. When the two CRMs are linked, a Salesforce Account merge always keeps the Account HubSpot syncs with, and your Merge Rules still decide the field values.

### How to turn off Salesforce sync protection

Added September 26, 2026
When the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration is uninstalled, HubSpot keeps its Salesforce properties on your companies, so Dedupely still reads them as synced. To stop that:
-
Go to **CRM Settings** for your HubSpot connection and open the **HubSpot-Salesforce Integration** tab.
-
Under **Salesforce sync protection**, check **We are not using HubSpot-Salesforce Integration**.
While it's checked, your Merge Rules decide every company merge, and a merge in one CRM doesn't merge the matching records in the other. Uncheck it to turn the protection back on.

### What happens next

- **Both CRMs are updated in one action.** The matching records are merged in HubSpot and in Salesforce.
- **Your sync keeps working.** The next sync cycle doesn't re-create the merged duplicate.
-
**Every merge is logged** in [Merge History](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/merge-history).
-
**Merges made in both CRMs at once can't be undone**, and neither can company merges in a HubSpot portal synced with Salesforce. A merge made in one CRM only can be undone within 30 days (see [Undo a Merge](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/undo-a-merge)). If you need to recover data, download your Merge History and use it to restore the original values.

### Troubleshooting

**I don't see the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration tab.** Both HubSpot and Salesforce need to be connected to Dedupely. Check **CRM Settings**.
**Merged records came back after a sync.** Check that the two CRMs are linked in the **HubSpot-Salesforce Integration**
tab. If they are and it still happens, [contact support](https://dedupe.ly/contact) via email or live chat.
**A merge failed in one CRM.** Your user might be missing permissions in that CRM. Check the permissions in the [HubSpot](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/hubspot-deduplication-guide) and [Salesforce](https://dedupe.ly/knowledge-base/salesforce-deduplication-guide) guides.

### FAQs about merging with the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration

-
**What do I need to merge synced records?** A Dedupely account with both HubSpot and Salesforce connected and linked.
-
**Do I need custom fields or workflow changes?** No. Dedupely detects the sync automatically.
-
**Can a merge be undone?** Not when it was made in both CRMs at once, and not for companies in a synced portal. A merge made in one CRM only can be undone within 30 days, from Merge History. For anything that can't be undone, download your Merge History as a CSV and use it to restore the original values.
-
**Is there a guide to the whole cleanup?** Yes. [Clean up the HubSpot–Salesforce sync](https://dedupe.ly/solutions/hubspot-salesforce-sync) goes from finding the duplicates to merging new ones on a schedule.

### Changelog

-
September 26, 2026

#### Turn off Salesforce sync protection

If the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration was uninstalled but left its properties behind in HubSpot, you can switch Salesforce sync protection off for that portal.
-
July 28, 2026

#### Pair HubSpot with Salesforce before merging synced records

Pair a HubSpot portal with its Salesforce org. Dedupely warns before a merge that would break the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration, a Safety Setting can exclude those matches, and Merge Preview keeps the synced Account as the Primary.
-
July 28, 2026

#### Merge a synced HubSpot and Salesforce pair in both CRMs

When records synced by the HubSpot-Salesforce Integration are duplicates, Dedupely merges them in HubSpot and Salesforce at once, so the pair stays linked. Both CRMs need to be connected.

### Gaby Salinas

Marketing Assistant at Dedupely
Gaby Salinas came to CRM data from marketing and advertising, so she looks at duplicates from two sides: the match and merge logic behind them, and what they do to the people using the CRM, like the rep who calls a customer twice, the admin who gets blamed and the cleanup nobody wants to start.
As Marketing Assistant at Dedupely, she follows how RevOps teams, end users, consultants and technical teams actually work with their data: the records they stop trusting, the workarounds they build and the moment they finally decide to clean up. What she finds shapes most of what Dedupely publishes.
